Having lived in Fishponds for 25 years, the Castellano family has witnessed the demise of the local shop. As is the case in so much of modern England, the butchers, bakers, green grocers and delicatessens have been all but wiped out by the hyper-convenient supermarkets. As this has happened, many unique cooking styles and flavours have been lost, along with the quality, regionalism and much of the passion behind the food.
The philosophy behind Castellano’s is simple. It is about reintroducing high quality food items, with much of its beautiful and unique food produced onsite.
The fusion of French and Italian styles and flavours reflects owner Vincent Castellano’s background and training. Providing restaurant quality food for people who don’t have the time or the skills to do so themselves, Castellano’s represents a new kind of convenience.
About VincentBorn in Italy, Vincent Castellano trained as a Butcher, Charcutier and Traiteur in the French Alps, during which time he learnt to transform and process whole pigs into various cuts and products, and the art of preparing an exciting menu of restaurant quality food for people to serve at home.
Since moving to Bristol in 1983, Vincent has followed a chef’s career, working as head chef for the award winning Glass Boat restaurant.
The provenance of our food is key to our philosophy. All of our meat is free range, and comes from farms across the South West. Our chickens and eggs are sourced locally where they are reared in genuinely – rather than just legislatively - free range conditions, The pork, lamb & beef are butchered onsite, and while all our meat is free range, we also aim for organic where possible.
Much of our packaging is biodegradable, and can be composted at home or placed in your brown bin for industrial composting. For more information ask one of our staff, who will be happy to help.
Our pre-cooked meals avoid any of the nasty additives that you would find in supermarket ready meals, instead opting for fresh ingredients that will provide you with all the flavour and wholesome goodness of a superb home-cooked meal.
